A campaign fit for a 2-Michelin-star restaurant’s twenty-year milestone
The Modern’s 20th anniversary wasn't just a single event—it was a multi-month series covering Bar Room pop-ups, Four-Hands chef collabs, invitations, social assets, email blasts, and menu inserts. We had to build the full identity before a single event partner was even confirmed. I needed a design system adaptable enough to handle whatever chef, date, or event came down the pipeline, while still feeling unmistakably like The Modern celebrating twenty years.
We anchored the visual design system to MoMA's Mondrian collection, combining his palette with The Modern’s signature blue. Mixing the type family of Cake Mono with The Modern brand’s Gotham gave typography a sharper edge while staying on-brand. We also developed a custom anniversary mark—with animated variations for digital assets—and maintained visual cohesion across print and social through monochrome photography, tactile textures, and subtle motion like glitch transitions.

ILLUSTRATING TWO CULTURES AT ONCE
The brand had to hold Indian tradition and modern diaspora identity without either one flattening the other into decoration. I developed original illustration work drawing on that dual influence — pulling from color, pattern, and ingredient imagery that felt specific rather than borrowed, and building a visual language young enough to read as contemporary beauty while staying honest to where it came from.
VISUALIZING PRECISION
For the event pairing Thomas Allan with Mark Lundgaard of Kong Hans Kælder, we built the social, email, and menu artwork around a single imagery concept: a hand using tweezers to place a single leaf on a plate. That focused gesture captured the obsessive precision both chefs bring to their work. The line of the tweezers also served as the dividing mark between their names, a structural element carried throughout the campaign to keep the series unified even as the visual focus shifted for each chef.
